Homages Flow for the Reiners as Autopsy Reports Remain Under Wraps.
More than two weeks following the shocking loss of esteemed film director Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues persist in remembering the pair.
‘Life is Pain Without You’: Cary Elwes Remembers His Director
Posting on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's 1987 classic *The Princess Bride*, explained he just recently felt prepared to express about his deep grief.
"Adequate time has gone by that I can finally express my sorrow into words," shared Elwes, adding that his initial encounter with Reiner made him fall in love. "When we commenced passing more hours together I knew this was someone I wanted in my life."
The actor shared behind-the-scenes footage from the movie, remarking that he doesn't recollect "any day without mirth".
"The film is about love, loyalty and sacrifice. Things that Rob valued immensely. Which is among the many reasons he was the best person to direct it," Elwes continued.
He also paid tribute Michele Reiner, noting: "Asserting that they were a formidable pair would be an oversimplification. My heart still hurts every time I remember you." He concluded with a line from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but existence is agony without you."
Martin Scorsese Reflects on a Colleague and Comrade
In a different essay, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese also honored Reiner, whom he first met in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was hilarious and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese said.
Scorsese mentioned Reiner's acting part in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, playing the father of the lead role.
"He could improvise with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked beautifully with his co-stars, and he understood the personal struggle of his character," Scorsese noted.
Legal Developments: Autopsy Reports Sealed
Recently, a Los Angeles superior court judge ruled to prevent the release of the Reiners' medical examiner's reports, following a petition from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A judicial mandate issued a restriction on the investigation to prohibit the public release of "related notes, notes, reports or photos" connected to the active case.
The relevant authority had already determined their deaths were the outcome of homicide, with a record noting the cause as "wounds from an edged weapon".
Fallout and Commentary
After the deaths, public figures shared divergent comments.
Ex-President Donald Trump posted on the matter, making controversial remarks that were broadly criticized by many public figures.
Podcaster Joe Rogan contributed his voice to the detractors last week. Speaking on his podcast, Rogan described the statements as "shocking" and remarked they showed a concerning absence of compassion.
Rogan finished by remarking that an adviser ought to have intervened when the decision to comment on the death was made.
