Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Player the Athlete
The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening indicating they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and had been in communication with the NFL.
The team did not mention the player by name in their statement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Instagram
The woman, who likewise did not name Rice by name, posted a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. She stated the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the team drafted in the second round.
Police Reports Currently Unavailable
No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have occurred.
Rice's Prior Legal Issues
Rice missed the initial part of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people hurt. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
On the field, he concluded the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
