Both Sergeants Instants Prior to the Aggressor Was Tasered

A senior officer that leaped to the aid of a fellow officer that was assaulted by a knifeman has been awarded the King's Commendation for Courage.

Sgt Tim Ansell grappled with 27-year-old Jacob Brown following he placed a weapon to the throat of his fellow officer Sgt Marc Foster.

Brown began the violence as the law enforcement personnel and their third officer, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a motorist subsequent to a vehicle incident in the area in mid-2023.

Brown knifed and cut the two Sgt Ansell and Sergeant Foster before Police Constable Wolstencroft stunned him with a Taser.

"Policeman attacked," PC Wolstencroft was heard to say over his communication device.

Bodyworn and dashboard camera footage shared by the police department showed Brown, who was dressed in dark clothing with a hood covering head, rush to Sergeant Foster from the rear with a blade outstretched.

He struck the officer who lost balance and fell to the pavement, before Sergeant Ansell stepped in and tried to wrestle him to the pavement although being multiple times hit with the knife.

Police Constable Wolstencroft drew his Taser and waited for a clear shot, ending the fight to an finish.

Sergeant Ansell was heard stating: "Can I get help on my neck now, I got knifed in the throat."

Sgt Ansell suffered multiple deep cuts to his neck and more wounds to his arms and body, while Sergeant Foster experienced knife wounds.

Authorities said Sergeant Foster used his bare hands to control his partner's blood loss prior to medical personnel came.

The latest honor follows after the law enforcement team received departmental Bravery Awards in fall 2023 and the police federation award from the area union branch in spring 2024.

They additionally received a Regional Bravery Award in July 2024.

"The responses of all three officers ultimately protected themselves and meant no members of the public experienced any injuries."

Brown was given to an indefinite hospital order in spring 2024, according to officials.
