A Heap of Anime Updates Arrived Over the Holidays
The Yuletide season offer a wealth of pastimes far superior than checking the latest news: discovering surprises, indulging in festive fare, and harnessing deep breathing to refrain from arguing with family members. It is wished you succeeded in do all these things and more. However, the entertainment world doesn't go on vacation, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Many exciting developments surfaced during the holidays, and just in case you didn't see a few, here is a roundup of the most exciting bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Moving Forward (By 2027)
Without a doubt the biggest piece of news, the much-discussed controversial season that was the third season of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to deter further production. The show will return with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—such a distant date they could have labeled it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be leading the project. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which might be a good sign. Yet, the promotional image for the new episodes is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This suggests that, by now, they could be trolling the fans.
Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has built a reputation for being an top-tier animation studio, making its mark not just for the exceptional quality of its output but for the ethical practices of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not adapted an anime stemming from a manga published in Shonen Jump, possibly the most iconic magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became a huge following when it debuted in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a extended pause due to the mangaka's health issues. When it resumed publication with a lighter schedule, the series showed it maintained the fans' affection and goodwill, and now fans are thrilled about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel Now in the Works
Kingdom is the best-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only just received an English localization, but the anime has been running for some time, and season 6 was a further excellent entry. As it happens that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been announced as in development, and it will probably premiere in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
Another studio famous for the excellent quality of its work, Science Saru has given us hit shows of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an prominent woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and captivating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my watchlist.
The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Second Season
Immediately following the release of its twenty-fourth episode, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a follow-up. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete release date has not been disclosed yet.
